Christian Leaders’
Training College (CLTC) has a small campus in the coastal city of Lae, PNG’s
second largest town. They have classes Monday to Thursday evening since many of
the students work and I had the privilege to teach two courses concurrently,
each lasting eight weeks. My schedule
was to ride my motorcycle four hours to cover the 150 miles from Ukarumpa to
Lae on Monday morning, do some shopping and get ready for class by 6 PM…

The first two months were consumed teaching a course on the whole New Testament to national Bible translators and church leaders. People in Papua New Guinea are oral learners and as such they love stories. I wanted to show those attending this course that the whole New Testament is a story, not just the first few books...

After way-too-long on hiatus, we're going to get this
site up to date! At the beginning of 2011 we were all living together as a
family in Ukarumpa – the main mission station in Papua New Guinea for the
Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL – better known as Wycliffe Bible
Translators). Daniel and Stefanie had been going to school there since we
returned to PNG in 2008…

The Advanced Hebrew course finished on Friday, November 26th but I wasn’t there. Instead, Michelle and I left that morning for CLTC to work on copiers, book ordering and to take part in Graduation! The focus on the students was never lost and the dignitaries only added to their Special day...

The Month of November was enveloped in Hebrew! The best and the brightest from the first course were invited back to delve deeper into the language of the Old Testament. However, it’s not as hard as it sounds. The languages here are often much closer in grammar to Hebrew than they are to English…
