How does crossing the Pacific knock a computer offline? I still have no idea but it happened to me! When we got to CLTC we had to change a few settings to get on the internet. When we got as far as Port Moresby (the capital) I changed them back and happily updated the website (see Day One Complete under the news menu). Then I got to the USA...
The computer was actually connected to the internet but something prevented any application (program) from accessing the internet. I worked on it... no change. A friend who is quite computer-savvy tried... no change. Then a professional computer geek worked on it.. still no change! In the end I made one last-ditch effort and restored the computer to how it was before we left PNG... then changed those same two settings again... and voila, it worked!! Maybe computers are even more severely affected by jet-lag than people!!?
